If you need more HDMI 2.0 ports and extract audio from source devices to your audio receiver simultaneously, the best solution is the HDMI 2.0 switch with audio output, which can simply be considered as the combination of HDMI 2.0 audio extractor and HDMI 2.0 switcher.
It is usually equipped with Optical (SPDIF/Toslink), Digital Coaxial, and Analog AUX / RCA audio output, you can set the audio EDID settings on the switch to control the audio-out method. Normally there are 3 audio EDID settings: PASS mode, 5.1CH mode, and 2CH stereo mode as below:
- 2CH Mode for Analog Stereo: Set 2CH PCM as output audio format on source devices and choose 2CH EDID, you will get 2CH analog stereo from RCA L/R, Optical, and HDMI output port.
- 5.1CH Mode for Digital Surround: Set 5.1CH Dolby Digital/DTS as output audio format on source devices and choose 5.1CH EDID, you will get 5.1CH digital surround from SPDIF optical and HDMI output port. Note: 3.5mm AUX or RCA L/R port will not have sound.
- PASS Mode for 7.1CH: For 5.1/7.1CH PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and above, set EDID to PASS and connect HDMI output to your receiver directly. Note: RCA L/R and Optical / Digital coaxial port will not have sound.
HDMI 2.0 supports up to 4K 60Hz HDR HDCP 2.2 and bandwidth up to 18Gbps, and backward compatible with HDMI 1.4 and 1.3. So it can work with most HDMI devices such as PS 3/4 Pro, Xbox One, Apple TV, Blu-ray player, cable/satellite receiver, laptop, computer, etc. You don’t need to worry about compatibility issues for a long time, that is why we recommended HDMI 2.0 switch directly instead of older HDMI 1.4/1.3 devices.
Besides, the right HDMI cord is also necessary for larger bandwidth, 4K 60Hz content requires Premium Quality HDMI 2.0 certified cables. And the HDMI cable length is generally recommended to be 16ft and below.

3-4 ports is just not enough! Those are filled up in an instance (for example if you have a DVD/Blu-ray, a gaming console, a Chromecast, an HTPC or a media streaming box). Now, what if you also have a set-top-box, or you just want to leave at least 1 port open for future devices?
I would love it if you added a couple of 5-6 port switches to this list! (but I think they might still be hard to find…). Thanks in advance, anyway!
YES! We will find reliable HDMI 2.0 Switchers with more ports, we will update them here.
